How Can You Hit a Target You Cannot See?

How can you hit a target you cannot see?

That's the question Zig Ziglar asks his audience
after claiming he could teach any of them to shoot
an arrow closer to the bullseye

than a world champion archer…

...provided the archer was *blindfolded.*

How can you be better than that world champion archer?
You can see your target, can't you?

One of the most common questions people ask me is
"How can I make more sales?"

I usually respond by asking,
" Who are you trying to sell to?"

I can almost predict the anwer I will get,
so I bite my tongue, close my eyes, and try not shudder.
"Everyone. My product is so great, it is for everyone."
Being agreeable, I say, "Well that's wonderful,"

I ask again, "But, *who *are you trying to sell to?"
At that point they tend to get somewhat speechless.
So I continue speaking…
Let me ask the question in another way to see if it helps,

"Ideally, who is most likely to buy your
product on the spot, no questions asked."

I always get a different answer here.

Do you know who your ideal customer is?

'Everyone' is almost 7 Billion people.

I don't know anyone who is capable of spending
enough money on advertising to reach 7 Billion people at once.

Even the largest companies *focus* their marketing efforts to specific targets.

If you want to increase your sales - narrow the focus of your target market and go after them with a laser focus.

Here are some questions you can ask yourself
to help you focus your marketing efforts

1) Who is your best prospect?
a. How old are they?
b. Are they male or female?
c. What type of work do they do?
d. How much money do they make?
e. Are they married or single?
f. What ethnic background do they have?

2) What are they like?
a. Are they conservative or liberal?
b. What other types of products do they buy?
c. What are their favorite hobbies?
d. What level of education do they have?
e. How comfortable are they spending money online?
f. What are their buying habits?

3) Where do they live?
a. In the city?
b. In the suburbs?
c. In a rural area?
d. In a developed country? Or undeveloped?

If you were able to answer those questions very easily without
saying 'yes' to them all…you probably have a good handle on who your target market is.

Now you can take that information about your *ideal* prospect
Buy more targeted advertising from it.

Your total ad costs will go down.
Your sales and conversion ratios will go up
You will make more money.
